Most companies won't put numbers on a page. Here are honest ranges for the Waco area, what moves a bid, and how to compare quotes without getting burned.
| Job | Typical range | What puts you at the high end |
|---|---|---|
| Small tree removal (under ~25 ft — mesquite, ornamental, hackberry) | $300 – $800 | Tight access, fence lines, debris haul distance |
| Medium tree removal (25–50 ft) | $700 – $1,800 | Over a roofline or driveway, limited drop zone |
| Large / hazardous removal (mature live oak, pecan; 50 ft+) | $1,500 – $4,000+ | Structures underneath, crane or bucket work, power lines, dead/brittle wood |
| Stump grinding (per stump, with a removal) | $100 – $400 | Stump diameter, roots in beds or near irrigation |
| Storm emergency work (tree on structure) | Quoted on scene | Urgency, tarping/board-up coordination, insurance documentation |
Ranges reflect typical Central Texas pricing; every tree is quoted individually, in writing, before work starts.
Get the quote in writing with scope spelled out: removal, haul-off, stump, cleanup. "We'll take care of everything" is not a scope.
Ask two insurance questions: "Do you carry liability insurance for tree work specifically?" and "Are your climbers covered by workers' comp?" If a limb goes through your roof — or worse, through a person — an uninsured crew's problem becomes your homeowner's-policy problem. In Texas, tree services are not centrally licensed by a state tree board, which means insurance certificates and reputation carry the weight that a license number would elsewhere. Any legitimate outfit will email you a certificate of insurance without acting insulted.
Beware the door-knocker after a storm. Post-storm Waco gets swept by out-of-town crews quoting cash prices off the back of a truck. Some are fine; enough aren't. See the storm response page for how to handle that week.
On oaks, cheap can be expensive. A bargain trim in April that ignores oak wilt rules can cost you the tree — and live oak shade is worth real money on a Texas appraisal.
Describe the tree when you call and have photos ready — we'll tell you where to send them, and most quotes come back same day.
